Welcome to another issue of The Health Plus Letter. This week, I’m excerpting another section of the cancer report I am close to completing (when it’s available, I’ll let you know). Below you will find the first half of Dr. Charles Simone’s Ten Point Plan for preventing and dealing with cancer. Dr. Simone is a pioneering integrative physician who has researched cancer for many years, and his recommendations are important.
You’ll also find the latest news and an invitation from my friend Sharry Edwards, a gifted scientist and pioneer in the field of sound therapy. I encourage you to take her up on her offer.

Dr. Charles Simone’s Ten Point Cancer Plan
“The truth is we cannot cure cancer with the current technology we have,” Dr. Charles Simone says. “We can prevent it. We can help extend lives and improve the quality of life with the proper lifestyle modification. We have the knowledge.”
At the heart of Dr. Simone’s approach to preventing and treating cancer is his Ten Point Plan that he first wrote about in 1981, in his book by the same name. Since then, each of the recommendations that make up his Ten Point Plan have repeatedly been corroborated by other researchers and cancer specialists.
Even though Dr. Simone’s primary emphasis is on preventing cancer by using his Ten Point Plan, many of its elements have also been shown to be effective in helping to reverse cancer, especially when they are used in conjunction with other cancer therapies.
The elements of Dr. Simone’s Ten Point Plan are:
1) Adopting a healthy nutritional strategy.
2) Avoiding tobacco products and exposure to tobacco smoke.
3) Avoiding alcohol and caffeine.
4) Minimizing exposure to radiation.
5) Maintaining a clean environment.
6) Modifying hormone-related and sexual-social factors.
7) Learning the seven cancer warning signs.
8) Exercising.
9) Managing stress levels.
10) Having regular physical exams and assessing your cancer risk profile.
Let’s examine each of these ten points in more detail, including Dr. Simone’s specific recommendations for each one.
Adopting A Healthy Nutritional Strategy: This first step of Dr. Simone’s Ten Point Plan involves following a diet that is low in fat and high and fiber, and which is supplemented with specific vitamins and minerals that are known to have anticancer properties. Dr. Simone recommends that you restrict your total fat intake to no more than 20 percent of your overall daily caloric intake, and that you make it a point to consume between 25 and 30 grams of dietary fiber each day. He says this can easily be accomplished if you include fiber rich whole grains in your meals, especially brown rice, barley, and buckwheat, and also eat plenty of vegetables and legumes. Vegetables from the cabbage family (cruciferous vegetables) are particularly good.
Dr. Simone also advocates avoiding most animal food products. Exceptions are free-range poultry (2-4 servings per week, without the skins), and most types of fish, except for shellfish, mackerel, and fish canned in oil. He also suggests avoiding most dairy products, except for yogurt on occasion. Goods that are smoked, salt-cured, barbequed, or charcoal-broiled should also be avoided.
It is also important to eliminate all food products that contain sugar, refined flour, and other simple carbohydrates, as well as all alcohol and caffeine beverages. (Despite the claims in the media that red wine is good for you in moderation, Dr. Simone has found that women who drink as little as two glasses of wine per week increase their risk of developing breast cancer by as much as 200 to 300 percent!)
In conjunction with a healthy diet, Dr. Simone also recommends the use of certain nutritional supplements. Recognizing that most people in the United Sates are deficient in various vitamins and minerals that the human body needs to resist cancer, he has developed three nutritional products that can help people meet their daily nutritional needs.
The first product is called OnccorTM, which contains a mixture of vitamins and minerals, along with the amino acid L-cysteine and a mixture of carotenoids. The second product is called Simone Super EnergyTM, and was developed by Dr. Simone to help meet our daily energy requirements. CalcorTM, Dr. Simone’s third product, was developed by him to help patients meet their daily requirements for calcium and other vital minerals, including magnesium, boron, potassium bicarbonate, and silicon, all in their most bioavailable forms and proper ratios. It also contains the amino acids lysine and threonine.
In addition to these nutritional recommendations, Dr. Simone also says, “Take one 325 mg aspirin every other day with food if you are medically able to do so. This will help to reduce the risk of heart attack and also reduce the risk of cancer spread.”
Avoiding Tobacco Products And Exposure To Tobacco Smoke: It’s long been known that cigarettes and other tobacco products are leading causes of lung cancer. Smoking is also the number cause of cancer-related death, primarily due to lung cancer. In addition, tobacco products have also been linked to various other types of cancer, including cancer of the bladder, cervix, kidney, mouth, neck, pancreas, stomach, throat, and vocal cords, as well as leukemia.
Research has shown that cigarettes and other tobacco products cause cancer in two ways. First, they produce free radicals, which have long been known trigger cancer, plus many other disease conditions. As free radical damage increases inside the body, so too does the likelihood that normal DNA will be harmed, leading to the formation of cancer cells.
Tobacco products also negatively impact the immune system, which is your body’s main line of defense against cancer. In particular, tobacco products suppress your body’s natural killer (NK) cells and IgA antibodies, both of which act as first line defenses against cancer cells, as well as bacteria, viruses, and other harmful microorganisms.
On top of these alarming facts, tobacco products themselves contain a variety of carcinogens (cancer-causing agents) that are used in their manufacture.
For these reasons, Dr. Simone strongly recommends that anyone who smokes or uses other types of tobacco products seek immediate help for quitting this unhealthy habit. This includes stopping the use of chewing tobacco and snuff, as well as smoking cigars and pipe tobacco. In addition, he recommends that all of us take steps to minimize our exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke.
Avoiding Alcohol And Caffeine: Alcohol, especially when it is consumed on a regular basis, is another factor that can increase your risk of cancer, according to Dr. Simone. He points out that regular consumption of alcohol can greatly increase the risk of cancers of the breasts, esophagus, head, liver, neck, pancreas, and throat (larynx and pharynx). In addition, when alcohol is combined with smoking, the two risk factors combine to significantly increase the risk of cancer in the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts.
In addition, as I mentioned above, Dr. Simone and other researchers have that women who drink as few as two alcoholic beverages per week are two to three times more likely to develop breast cancer, compared to women who abstain from alcohol. (Typically, an alcoholic beverage equates to four ounces of win, 12 ounces of beer, or one and one-half ounces of whiskey or liquor.)
Alcohol also suppresses NK and other immune cells, impairing their ability to detect and fight cancer cells, and can also cause a variety of nutritional deficiencies. Research shows that deficiencies in B vitamins, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, and zinc are especially common among people who regularly consume alcohol. All of these nutrients play important roles in the immune system, your body’s first line of defense against cancer, further explaining why alcohol should be avoided.
As for caffeine, although Dr. Simone admits that there is no clear evidence that is a direct cause of cancer, he adds that research does show that caffeine increases the incidence and growth of benign breast lumps. Benign breast lumps are a known risk factor for breast cancer. In addition, the National Cancer Institute has reported that regular consumption of coffee has also been linked to bladder cancer and other types of cancer of the urinary tract. For these reasons, Dr. Simone recommends that people limit themselves to no more than two cups of coffee per day, and that they drink only organically grown brands.
Minimizing Exposure To Radiation: There are two types of radiation that nearly all humans are exposed to today: ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Both types have been shown to cause cancer.
The most common exposure to ionizing radiation comes from certain types of medical technologies, such as X rays, CAT scans, and mammograms. Dr. Simone believes that physicians rely too much on such technologies, and he is not alone. In recent years, a growing number of health specialists have called on the medical establishment to take greater care when using such diagnostic methods. They also recommend lower doses for X rays, pointing out that all too often the doses used are excessively high and that doses as low as half the commonly used levels are just as accurate. A number of health experts, beginning as early as 1990, also blame the unnecessary use of X rays for an increase in cancer deaths each year.
The use of mammograms is something Dr. Simone particularly cautions against. He believes that physicians rely too much on mammography to detect breast cancer and says they should instead spend more time performing physical breast exams. According to Dr. Simone, such exams should always precede mammograms because, in most cases, they are as or more effective than mammograms for detecting breast abnormalities. “Physicians who spend ten to 15 minutes doing the exam have a higher likelihood of identifying problems,” he says. “Also, there is no survival benefit in mammography screening for women aged 40 to 49 or those older than 65, absolutely none.”
Dr. Simone recommends that only women between the ages of 50 and 65 receiving mammograms, and then only once ever one or two years. In addition, he says such women should only consent to a mammogram after they have received a thorough breast examination from their doctor.
You may find Dr. Simone’s recommendations about mammograms controversial. If so, consider that both the National Cancer Institute and the National Academy of Sciences have admitted that mammograms can cause cancer.
X rays, mammograms and other types medical technologies are not the only sources of ionizing radiation, either. Industrial emissions into the air, soil, and water, especially from nuclear power plants, are another significant risk factor in many parts of the US and abroad. Although the Atomic Energy Commission and the US Department of Energy maintain that such emissions are “permissible”, many health experts and environmental scientists disagree. In their mind, there is no level of radiation, no matter how low, that has been proven to be safe. In addition, they also point out that, once such emissions are emitted into the air, they can return to earth in rainfall to accumulate in soil, water, and food crops. Learning about such emission and how you can minimize your exposure to them is therefore another important step you should take to ensure your good health.
Your exposure to non-ionizing radiation comes in the form of electromagnetic fields, or EMFs, which are produced by electrical currents. Power lines near or into your home are a major source of EMF radiation, as are poorly insulated electrical wiring. Other common sources of EMF radiation in your home include computers, dimmer switches, TV sets, and electric blankets. Cell phones are another all too common source of EMF radiation. Dr. Simone advises his patients to become aware of the sources of EMF radiation in their homes and to do all that they can to minimize such exposures.
Maintaining A Clean Environment: In addition to minimizing EMF exposure at home, Dr. Simone emphasizes taking responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy environment, both at home and at work. They key to doing so is eliminating sources of indoor pollution. Such sources include chemicals found in synthetic products, including home flooring, wall, and ceiling materials, and also synthetic rugs, carpets, and bedding, clothing, and furniture made from synthetic products. Common household cleaning products, as well as synthetic air fresheners, paint, glue, solvents, and varnishes also contain a variety of chemicals known to cause cancer. To improve the air quality of your home, you should also be sure to change dirty filters in your air and furnace systems.
Another problem area for most people is their indoor water supply, which can contain many potential carcinogens, including chlorine, fluoride, and various metals and other compounds. For this reason, Dr. Simone advises drinking only spring or filtered water, and to consider installing a water filtration unit or system in your home.
Also beware of harmful chemicals outside your hose and workplace, such as those found in pesticides and other garden and lawn care products.

Innovative Biotech Company Awarded Contract with US Army to Study Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Summary: Innovative study projected to produce a quantitative, mobile, non-invasive identification of close proximity acoustic blast injuries and, ultimately, the restitution of normal brain function and emotional stability for returning soldiers.
The Sound Health Institute of BioAcoustic Biology, southeastern Ohio's only alternative research biotech company, has recently been awarded a contract with the United States Army. The objective of the collaborative venture is the utilization of Sound Health's emerging technology to explore the potential of using frequency-based biomarkers to identify and quantify Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and the associated Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Statistics from The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC), established in 1992, recently revealed that more than 20% of the 20,000 military casualties from the Iraq war suffered from TBI and nearly 60% of soldiers who entered Walter Reed Army Medical Center from both Afghanistan and Iraq were diagnosed with TBI as either their primary or secondary injury.
The implication of this innovative study is the development of a quantitative detection method to identify close proximity acoustic blast injuries and, ultimately, the restitution of normal brain function and emotional stability. The work being done by the Institute is at the forefront of a distinguishing technology that employs numeric biomarker patterns to assess, evaluate and produce outcomes that optimally support biological form and function.
This emerging technology utilizes the premise that the body can identify and prescribe for itself using the algorithms of vocalized frequencies to accurately quantify, organize, and extrapolate biometric information. This data, in turn, provides the opportunity to predict, direct and maintain homeostasis of the body in a non-invasive yet mobile manner.
The Institute has been using homogenous vocal profiles to provide a proof of concept for issues previously believed to be irreversible through conventional medical practice.
