New This Issue

Welcome to another issue of The Health Plus Letter. This week, I’m alerting you to yet another attack on our health freedom, courtesy of senators swayed by Big Pharma’s lobbyists and campaign contributions. I’m also repeating my alert to my fellow New Yorkers that I wrote about last issue.

Also in this issue, you’ll find an article I wrote about easy-to-use techniques you can use to improve your mental and emotional health.  I’m also continuing to excerpt from my latest book, Juice Alive: The Ultimate Guide to Juicing Remedies, which I co-wrote with Dr. Steven Bailey. You’ll also find self-care tips for dealing with food poisoning, which seems to be on the rise lately. Finally, I’m also alerting you to the Simpleology book and website, both of which are the creations of Mark Joyner. I’ve benefited from the techniques that Mark created for Simpleology, and I think you will too.

As always, please continue to send me your comments and suggestions. And please spread the word about The Health Plus Letter by passing it along to your friends and inviting them to subscribe.

Simpleology: The Simple Science of Getting What You Want

I want to alert you to a new book that I highly recommend. It’s called Simpleology: The Simple Science of Getting What You Want and it’s written by Mark Joyner, a former military intelligence official who for the past decade has been exploring and developing ways to more creatively and successfully “think outside the box,” in order to achieve greater levels of freedom and satisfaction in life. In his new book, Mark explains how and why they do, and shows you how you can start using them too.

I’ve long been an admirer of Mark Joyner, and I daily make use of the techniques he developed to help others more easily and productively achieve their goals, because they really work. For example, one of his techniques, called the Daily Target Praxis, has enabled me to much more effectively achieve my daily goals and manage my time more wisely.

You can get your copy of  Simpleology: The Simple Science of Getting What You Want here:

Another Attack On Our Health Freedoms

The following alert was sent to me by Brenna Hill, Executive Director of the Health Freedom Foundation and the American Association for Health Freedom. Please read it carefully and then visit HFF’s website to take action to protect your rights.

“Just as everybody has a unique fingerprint, so is our response to various pharmaceuticals and other healing modalities.  No reasonable person can expect a mass produced pharmaceutical to address all the subtle nuances of varying human physiology – but that is not stopping Big Pharma, the FDA, and Congress from trying to take away your right to individualized medicine.

If this legislation passes, federal regulators, not your doctor, will decide what medicines you can take.  Do you really want to leave your customized medicine needs in the hands of bureaucrats in the government? We cannot stand idly by while our pharmacists and doctors are forced to become mere dispensers of a few heavily-advertised, one-size-fits-all pharmaceutical products.

Among other things, the so-called Safe Drug Compounding Act of 2007 would give the Food and Drug Administration the power to:

Broadly eliminate the availability of many critical, commonly compounded medications that many patients rely on, such as bioidentical hormones for women, hospice care treatments for the terminally ill and customized medicines for children.

Determine when compounded medicines are needed - a decision that has always been and should always be made by doctors.

Restrict the compounded medications your doctor can prescribe even if he or she determines you need them.

Among those who will be affected by this legislation if it passes are: menopausal women and andropausal men, the autistic community, individuals living with HIV/AIDS, hospice patients, infants and young children with conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and people who are extremely allergic or sensitive to fillers, dyes, and additives in medicines will be left with no choice.

According to the Washington, D.C. political magazine Congressional Quarterly, pharmaceutical manufacturers are in “high lobby mode” in support of this legislation.  From what we understand, hospitals are staying silent, anticipating that they will be exempt from this bill.  We are working with doctor groups, compounding pharmacist organizations, consumer groups, and women associations among others, but it’s not enough.  We are up against a highly organized, well-funded front and we need you to stop them.”

To take action, please visit: http://www.healthfreedom.net and click on the link entitled Stop NEW bill to restrict access to individualized medicine.

New Yorker’s Access to Supplements Under Attack

From Citizens for Health: March 15, 2007

In the March issue of Nutrition Industry Executive magazine (www.niemagazine.com), James Gormley reports that there are four new bills in New York State that have been introduced by NY State Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (D-51st District) - six if you count two companion bills in the NY Senate.  These bills take aim at consumers by targeting all supplement companies that sell into New York, which is virtually every manufacturer that exists.

The following is a list of the bills and what they entail:

Bill A3944 would require "that anyone selling dietary supplements that make health or appearance claims possess competent and scientific evidence substantiating those claims"; it would also require a warning statement on the product label or "handout" if the product claim is not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Bill A4014 would prevent school employees, especially coaches, from recommending dietary supplements to students and would require schools to warn students of the risks of supplements.

Bill A3357 would establish a dietary supplements safety committee that would, apparently, create "adequate standards and enforcement for manufacturing, safety and effectiveness" of dietary supplements.

Bill A2068 would require labeling to indicate which products have been tested by the FDA for "purity."

If enacted, these bills would:

  • Create a completely unnecessary layer of bureaucracy at the state level (attempting to usurp Federal powers)
  • Limit consumers' access, and interfere with their right, to important information about supplements
  • Place an unnecessary economic burden on the nutritional and dietary supplement industry and its customers without providing any additional value to consumers.

These bills are not just bad for consumers of natural products---they are bad for the state of New York.  For example, A3944 would promote a different, unwarranted, and unnecessary double standard for dietary supplement makers who sell products in New York. The costs of compliance would drive up the costs of products for the millions of consumers statewide who depend upon inherently safe supplements for health and well-being. It would also force many manufacturers to relocate to other states, while those who remain would pass their greater costs on down to consumers, forcing those same consumers to, in turn, look to other states for the supplements upon which they depend.

We at Citizens for Health join with the National Nutritional Foods Association-East in strongly opposing these bills, and urge you to do the same.  At best, they are unnecessary because sufficient regulations, enforcement and oversight already exist at the Federal level, like the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA).

At worst and realistically, the bills are burdensome and have the potential to create a confusing and unfairly hostile environment for supplements in New York State that would be used as a precedent for the establishment of similar regulations across the country.

To make your voice heard and to stop these bills, please visit: http://tinyurl.com/yrqqrp

Drinking the Rainbow by Steven Bailey, ND and Larry Trivieri, Jr.

In his book, The Rainbow Diet, Dr. Gabriel Cousins documents the importance of eating a wide range of fruits and vegetables of many colors, so as to receive a “rainbow” spectrum of nutrients that such a variety of fruits and vegetables contain. By making juicing and smoothies a regular part of your diet, it is also possible to “drink the rainbow.” In preparing this chapter, Dr. Bailey decided to create a weekly smoothie recipe plan that would make “drinking the rainbow” easy and fun. When he shared his plan with his young daughter Shayla she suggested that she and her friends do a taste test of the smoothies Dr. Bailey had selected, and Dr. Bailey agreed. The recipes below have all been “kid tested and approved.” They are also accompanied meditative practices you can explore each day that correspond to the energies associated with the color of each smoothie. Various, like-colored “super foods” are also included as add-ins that you can use to boost the nutritional value of each drink. For best results, use organic fruits whenever possible. Each recipe provides one to two servings.

Monday—The Color Red: Combine one cup of fresh, organic strawberries with ½-1 cup of cranberry juice. While fresh cranberry juice is preferred, you can use bottled, organic cranberry juice, as well as a splash of organic, white grape juice. Blend until smooth. As an additional option, you can also add one cup of pomegranate to this mixture.

Add-ins: cinnamon, wolfberries, hawthorn berries.

Meditative Practice: long walks, gardening, planting.

Tuesday—The Color Orange: Mix one cup of peaches and one cup of papayas with ½-1 cup orange juice. Blend until smooth. Mango can be substituted for papaya or included with it.

Add-ins: ginger, cardamom, and calendula flowers.

Meditative Practice: Nurturing activities with family, children, self-care.

Wednesday—The Color Yellow: Combine one banana, ½ cup pineapple, and ½-1 cup lemon juice sweetened with white grape juice or maple sugar. Blend until smooth. Other options include peaches, yellow grapes, and/or pineapple juice.

Add-ins: turmeric, dandelion flowers, flax seeds.

Meditative Practice: Good works, forgiveness.

Thursday—The Color Green: Combine one apple with 1-2 kiwis and blend with one cup of sweetened lime juice. Other fruits you can use are green grapes and organic green grape juice.

Add-ins: green powders, mint leaves, wheat grass juice.

Meditative Practice: Walks in nature, practice acts of loving-kindness.

Friday—The Color Blue: Combine one cup of blueberries with ½-1 cup blueberry, apple, or black cherry juice. Blend until smooth.

Add-ins: Hyssop, elderberries.

Meditative Practice: Singing, music, dancing.

Saturday—The Color Purple: Combine one cup of blackberries with ½-1 cup pear or black cherry juice. Blend until smooth. Purple grapes, Marion berries, and prune juice can also be used as other options.

Add-ins: Noni juice, lavender blossoms, juniper berries.

Meditative Practice: Quiet meditation, yoga.

Sunday—The Color White: Combine one banana with two tablespoons grated coconut, two tablespoons soaked almonds, and six soaked lotus seeds, and blend with one cup fresh coconut milk until smooth. Pears, white grapes, and almond milk can also be added to this recipe.

Add-ins: Maca powder, osha root, job’s tears (soaked).

Meditative Practice: Gratitude, thankfulness, prayer, water therapies and activities.

Self-Care Approaches for Improving Your Mental and Emotional Health

Holistic health practitioners regard mental health as a condition of peace of mind, contentment, and positive beliefs and attitudes. These mental and emotional aspects are interrelated and have been shown to play significant roles in both helping to prevent and recover from a wide range of disease conditions, including cancer. While competent professional care may be required for people suffering from depression, bipolar disorder (manic depression), or chronic, unresolved grief, sorrow, or anger, a variety of self-care measures are available for creating a more positive mental and emotional outlook. Among them are affirmations, breathwork, journaling, conscious laughter, and touch. Working with one or more of these methods will help you become more aware of your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs in a way that will better enable you to meet your personal and professional goals, and experience improved levels of energy and greater well-being.

Affirmations:Most people's predominant beliefs are handed down to them when they are children by their parents, teachers, and other influential adults. The thoughts and ideas they heard expressed helped to shape their own worldview, and for the most part remained with them as they grew into adulthood. Usually this process occurs unconsciously, and often with limiting consequences during adulthood, if the beliefs remain unexamined. By becoming conscious of your beliefs, you gain the power to change or eliminate those that no longer serve you, replacing them with those that do. Working with affirmations is one way of accomplishing this.

Affirmations are positive messages that you repeat to yourself either verbally or in writing in order to produce a specific outcome. Over time, they affect the unconscious by "reprogramming" it with the thought patterns you consciously select to influence your behavior. In the process, they can unleash and stimulate healing energies in all areas of your life.

Because of their simple nature, the greatest challenge in working with affirmations is to suspend judgment long enough to allow them to produce the results you desire. In addition, it helps to feel your affirmations as you recite or write them, since this brings more energy to the experience. Make the process as vivid and real as possible.

The following guidelines are recommended for anyone interested in beginning an affirmation program:

Always state your affirmation in the present tense and keep it positive.

Keep your affirmations short and simple, no longer than two or three brief sentences.

Write or verbalize each affirmation ten to twenty times each day.

Whenever you experience yourself thinking or hearing a habitual negative message, counteract it by focusing on your affirmation.

Schedule a regular time each day to do your affirmations to add momentum to what you are trying to achieve until it becomes a positive, effortless habit.

Repeat your affirmations in the first, second, and third person, using your name in each variation. First person affirmations address any mental conditioning you have given yourself, while affirmations in the second and third person helps to release the conditioning you may have accepted from others. In each case, write out or repeat the affirmation ten times.

Make a commitment to practice your affirmations for at least 60 days or well beyond the time you begin experiencing the results you desire.

Visualize your affirmations by closing your eyes and imagining what the affirmation looks and feels like as you say or write it. try to engage as many of your senses as possible.

An additional affirmation technique, developed by Leonard Orr, a pioneer in the field of breathwork, makes use of a "response column." According to Orr, who has worked with affirmations for over four decades, this technique will help you become more aware of unconscious limiting thoughts and beliefs. The exercise is performed as follows: Draw a line down the middle of a piece of paper. On the left hand column, write out the affirmation you are working with. On the right hand column, immediately write the response that occurs to you without judging it. For example, if you desire more energy, your affirmation might be, "I have abundant energy throughout the day," while your initial response might be, "It's all I can do to get out of bed in the morning!" Note your response and then write your affirmation again, followed by your next response. Do this at least ten times, twice a day, until your response becomes neutral or you truly feel in agreement with your affirmation. In this way, over time, you will be drudging up and releasing the various limiting, negative beliefs you've unconsciously been holding onto, and replacing them with thoughts and images that better serve you.

Breathwork:We can live for weeks without food, and days without water, but if we stop breathing for more than few minutes, we die. Yet most people breathe inefficiently and unconsciously, breathing shallowly through the chest and depriving themselves of the many benefits proper breathing can provide, including a greater oxygen supply to your body’s cells and tissues, which is of paramount importance in keeping cancer at bay. The benefits of proper breathing are not only physical, however. Breathing fully and deeply also relieves stress, enhances feelings of well-being, and promotes clearer thinking. Learning to breathe fully and consciously can also heal the parts of us that are wounded, rejected, or disowned, restoring them to wholeness.

Modern breathwork techniques focus on breathing in a manner that moves energy through the body and connects you with suppressed emotions and limiting beliefs in order to heal them. Most forms of breathwork employ connected breathing, meaning that each inhalation and exhalation is connected and occurs without pausing, unlike unconscious breathing, in which there is typically a gap between the inhale and the exhale. The rate of respiration varies; sometimes it is rapid; sometimes it is deep, slow, and full. Because of the emotional release that can result from such techniques, it is advisable to learn them under the direction of a skilled breath therapist. The following exercise, however, can be safely performed by anyone to relieve stress and increase energy.

Sit straight and in a relaxed manner, placing your palms on your chest and belly. Now breathe as you normally do. Most likely when you inhaled your hand covering your chest moved, while your other hand did not. In this exercise, you are going to reverse this pattern by breathing in through your stomach area. Keeping your hands in the same position, once more inhale, this time directing your breath in and out through your belly. Don't strain and remember to breathe fully, without pausing between the inhale and exhale. At first, this exercise may feel odd and even difficult, but with practice it will become easier. The goal is to breathe freely deeply only through the belly, so that your chest does not rise. (Keeping your hands in position will help you monitor your progress.)

Breathing in this manner on a regular basis is a very effective way to relieve stress, improve energy, curtail anxiety and depression, and enhance digestion. Try to breathe in this manner for at least twenty minutes each day, and whenever you feel tired, tense, or irritable.

Journaling: Also known as "expressive writing," journaling is an easy yet powerful way to keep track of your personal experiences, while also allowing you to develop new insights and solutions to your problems, discover unconscious beliefs that may be limiting your growth, and appreciate all for which you currently can be grateful. People who make a daily habit of writing entries in their journals report a deeper understanding of themselves, and often become better able to achieve their goals, including health. For many people, journaling becomes a productive form of therapy which can lead to a new understanding of how and why they act the way they do. In the process, they often become better aware of their beliefs, and discover how to change those that don't serve them. Journaling is also valuable for people who have difficulty expressing their emotions. In their journals they have the opportunity to write out and resolve what they are feeling, without having to worry about others judging them.

The most common form of journaling is keeping a diary. What follow are three other forms of journaling you can use to create more vitality and personal satisfaction in your life.

The Gratitude JournalThis type of journaling is best performed at the end of the day, prior to going to bed. Its purpose is to help you better appreciate all that you have to be grateful for each and every day of your life. No matter how misfortunate you may feel at any given time, if you truthfully investigate your life you can always find reasons to be grateful, even when you are sick. By focusing on these positive factors, you can stimulate your immune system to operate more efficiently.

To keep a gratitude journal, write down each night all the events of the day that caused you to feel happy, even those you may not have noticed when they happened. Don't rush this exercise. Take time to really examine your day and make a list of all the people and events that made you happy, allowing yourself to re-experience that happiness as you write about it. Over time, this exercise can substantially improve your mood, self-esteem, and confidence levels, boosting your physical well-being in the process.

The Stream-Of-Consciousness Morning Journal—This method of journaling was popularized by Julia Cameron, author of The Artist's Way. She suggests that upon arising each morning, you fill up three pages of paper, writing down whatever thoughts come into your head. Don't edit yourself, just write all the thoughts that occur to you. Cameron and other proponents of this method claim that this exercise helps people rid themselves of "mental debris," allowing them to become better able to then focus on and accomplish their goals during the rest of the day.

A variation of this technique is to write for 15 minutes and then read over what you wrote, underlining any thoughts that you find negative. Then rewrite each of them as a positive affirmation (see above). For example, if you wrote, "I'm feeling tired and I wish I didn't have to get up and go to work," your rewrite might read, "I am naturally energetic and enjoy my job." Do this for each sentence you underlined. At first, you may feel resistance during this process, yet over time you will discover how performing it helps you create the reality you prefer for yourself.

The Illness Dialogue—Illness often has a mental or emotional component that isn't readily apparent. This form of journaling helps to uncover the "hidden" meaning or message of your illness so that you can better understand the causes behind your symptoms. Often, once these psychological causes are understood and accepted, the illness itself also resolves.

Perform this exercise by asking yourself the following question: "If this illness (or pain) could speak, what would it say?" Then write down the first impression that comes to you. Once again, don't edit yourself. Write down whatever occurs to you, even if it seems ludicrous or upsetting. Then read your response and ask yourself the first question that presents itself. Then write down your next response. Repeat the process until no further questions occur to you or you feel that you have the answer that can help you. Most likely you will need to repeat this exercise for a few days or more before your questions are resolved, but the rewards of doing so can be well worth it.

Conscious Laughter—Modern science is now beginning to verify the adage, "Laughter is the best medicine." One of the most famous examples illustrating this point is that of Norman Cousins, who wrote of recovering from a potentially crippling arthritic condition after spending hours watching Marx Brothers movies and reruns of Candid Camera while taking megadoses of vitamin C. Laughing regularly caused his pain to lessen, until eventually his illness disappeared altogether. More recently, the work of Patch Adams, M.D., founder of the Gesundheit Institute in Arlington, Virginia, has spurred increased interest in laughter's therapeutic effects.

Hearty laughter offers many of the same benefits as gentle exercise. Laughing exercises the facial muscles, shoulders, diaphragm, and abdomen. Laughter also decreases anxiety and stress and can improve our outlook on life, which is very useful when we get sick. Research shows that laughter may also boost endorphin levels, increase circulation, and enhance immune activity.

All of us laugh at certain times throughout each day, but we can increase laughter's benefits by consciously choosing to laugh more often. Doing so requires commitment and a willingness to cultivate a sense of optimism and humor, however. Like any skill, learning to become a conscious laugher takes practice, but when you find yourself laughing throughout the day, you can be sure that you are increasingly becoming healthier in every area of your life.

Touch and Mental/Emotional Health: Touch has for centuries been an essential component of many healing traditions, including the biblical practice of "laying on of hands." Touch is also one of the most powerful methods all of us have for conveying and receiving love. The U.S., however, in comparison to other parts of the world, is in many ways a
"touch-adverse" society. In order to be optimally healthy we need to consciously make touch a more frequent occurrence in our lives, recognizing that touch is a gift we can give ourselves and each other every day.

Two of the easiest ways of learning how to accept touch are self-touch and hugging. Self-touch can be as simple as giving yourself a foot massage or kneading your shoulders. Focus on what you are doing and be attentive. Self-touch can also promote calm and help you become centered during times of stress. Gently cradling your face in your hands for a few minutes with your eyes closed, for example, can restore your energy after time spent sitting at a desk or computer.

Hugging and being hugged is another simple, yet powerful way of relieving stress and enhancing well-being. To truly benefit from giving and receiving a hug, it pays to be more conscious. Many people are uncomfortable with physical closeness and unconsciously pull away from a hug before it is completed. If you fall into this category, make it a practice of giving and receiving several hugs each day with your family and friends. Holding hands or a friendly pat on the back are also ways to give and receive the benefits of touch. Petting and holding household pets can bring similar benefits, as well.

Spiritual Health: Spiritual health, while often the most overlooked aspect of healing, is actually the ultimate goal of holistic medicine, and leads to a heightened awareness of the Divine Spirit referred to by all religions. Developing a spiritual connection to your deeper Self and life in general will help you to reduce your feelings of fear, and provide you with a greater capacity for loving yourself and others unconditionally. It will also help you reconnect to your special talents and gifts and use them to fulfill your life's purpose.

In addition to being consciously aware of the role Spirit plays in your life, being spiritually healthy also means being intimately connected to your spouse, partner, family, friends, and community, resulting in social health, as well. S
piritual and social health are interconnected, since it is through our committed relationships that we find the greatest opportunities for spiritual growth and for learning how to receive and impart unconditional love.

In addition to the observance of spiritual and religious traditions, working with spiritual counselors and support groups are common methods of creating spiritual and social health, as are the opportunities afforded us through our friendships, marriage, intimate relationships, and parenting. A variety of self-care approaches, including prayer, meditation, gratitude, and spending time within nature, can further deepen your awareness of yourself as a spiritual, socially-connected being, and are increasingly being recommended by conventional and holistic physicians alike.

Self-Care Tips for Preventing and Relieving Food Poisoning

Food poisoning is characterized by abdominal pain, without or without diarrhea, vomiting, sweating, and/or weakness. It usually within 24-96 hours of eating a food contaminated with a virus or bacteria.

Symptoms of food poisoning vary greatly. Symptoms can manifest as quickly as 30 minutes to one hour if due to chemical food poisoning; one to twelve hours in cases due to bacterial poisoning; 12 to 48 hours in cases due to viral or salmonella poisoning. Symptoms can range from stomach pain and nausea, to constipation, diarrhea (sometimes in alternation with each other) and, in very severe cases, collapse and shock.

Food poisoning is far more common than is typically believed. Many cases of diarrhea each year, for instance, are probably due to food poisoning. Many of these cases go unreported as the cause is not known and is usually attributed to the stomach flu.

What To Consider

Flu, gastrointestinal disorders, digestive enzyme deficiencies, drug interactions, stress, and nutrient deficiencies or excess (too much magnesium can cause loose stools and abdominal cramps) can all mimic symptoms of food poisoning. In infants, symptoms can also be due to an intolerance to honey.

You should suspect food poisoning if a number of people who ate the same food come down with similar symptoms. The most common forms of food poisoning are infective types such as salmonella, found in farm animals or passed on by food handling or flies from contaminated fecal material; frozen poultry that is not completely thawed before being cooked; contaminated drinking water; foods that remain at room temperature too long, which can encourage Clostridium— often referred to as the “cafeteria germ”—to grow; and food products such as chicken, duck, or geese, raw or partly cooked eggs, or raw fish such as clams, oysters, or sushi.

Other causes include organisms such as Staphylococcal bacteria, which can be passed through the hands, coughing, sneezing, or breathing onto the food, botulism, which can occur in food preserved at home; viruses that contaminate shellfish due to contaminated waters; and other infective organisms such as Giardia and Campylobacter, which can take up to one week before causing symptoms.

Non-infective food poisoning is another factor, and is caused by poisonous mushrooms, toadstools, and fresh vegetables and fruits that have been contaminated with chemicals and insecticides, stored in inappropriate containers, or from leakage of metals from the containers into the food.

Note: If food poisoning is due to chemical or bacterial toxins, proper treatment may require pumping the stomach. Food poisoning usually improves within three days unless due to botulism, chemical poisoning, or mushroom poisoning. However, some infective organisms do not cause identifiable initial symptoms but can linger in the body and may cause long-term health problems that are difficult to diagnose.

Caution: In cases of food poisoning that cause severe vomiting and diarrhea, seek immediate emergency medical care and keep samples of food available for testing, if possible.

Self-Care Tips

Diet:
Stop eating all solid food, drink plenty of fluids, and immediately take six charcoal tablets, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacteria, L. bulgaricus, and grape seed extract. Also replace lost electrolytes, if needed, by dissolving one teaspoon of salt and four teaspoons of sugar in one quart of water. Be accurate with salt amount or it may create more dehydration. Garlic cloves can also be helpful. Once symptoms abate, slowly reintroduce high-fiber foods such as grains to help settle your stomach.

If you are traveling in areas where food poisoning is common, try eating more hot, spicy foods to encourage more gastric secretions and avoid all drinking water except bottled water and do not eat any raw vegetables or use ice in your drinks.

Nutritional Supplementation: The following nutrients can help hasten recovery and prevent long-term side effects related to food poisoning: acidophilus, charcoal tablets, grape seed extract, garlic capsules, vitamin C with bioflavonoids, and kelp tablets. Lipoic acid is also useful because it can protect the liver from damaging free-radical attack caused by ingesting poisonous foods.

Herbs: For non-severe cases of food poisoning, drink cumin, coriander, or fennel tea.

Homeopathy: Arsen alb., Chamomilla, Ipecac., Apis mel., Nux vom., and Colchicum are useful homeopathic remedies for food poisoning.

Juice Therapy: Drink the juice of carrot, beet, and garlic to help settle your stomach and also to help eliminate bacteria or viruses associated with food poisoning.

Professional Care
If your symptoms persist despite the above measures, seek the help of a qualified health professional. The following professional care therapies have all been shown to be useful for treating food poisoning: Acupuncture, Detoxification Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, and Oxygen Therapy.

By reading it, not only will you discover how words, and language itself, is routinely used to con you, you will also discover how you participate in this process by how you allow words to influence your thoughts and feelings. More importantly, this book, if you take the time to study it and put its principles to use, will not only significant reduce your ability to be conned, but also help you to become more conscious of, and stop engaging in, the way you use words to con others, whether you do so knowingly or not. In short, it will empower you to achieve greater levels of integrity while also making you impervious to the many cons that face us all these days. As Dr. Shapiro says, there is too much at stake. Highly recommended. (I also recommend that you visit Dr. Shapiro’s website, http://www.menssana.org, to learn more about him and his work.)

http://www.naturalhealthvillage.com - Peter Barry Chowka has written another very important article updating the slow but sure usurping of our medical freedoms under the guise state and federal governments insisting that they are only looking out for our best interests. Entitled “April Fool’s Alt Med News Updates,” it’s a must-read piece that I can’t recommend highly enough. I have long agreed with Chowka that the push for “universal health care” in the US will be the means by which the medical cartel will once and for all take full control over our health care choices if it’s enacted as law. (The Democrats, in particular, will push for it, and every leading Dem candidate for president has it as part of his/her plank. According to Chowka, it’s also on the agenda among Republican candidates.) The push for government mandated socialism continues apace.

http://tinyurl.com/yrve4n - This link will take you to an investigation of the anthrax vaccine, which mandatory for men and women in our armed forces. The military maintains that the vaccine is safe. Yet research conducted at Walter Reed Hospital’s National Vaccine Healthcare Center appears to contradict that claim. The issues involved have relevance for vaccines in general.

http://www.kpcnews.com/articles/2007/03/14/online_features/hpv_vaccine/hpv01.txt - This link goes to a news article about one of the lead researchers of the Gardasil vaccine that I denounced in two recent issues of The Health Plus Letter. In addition to being opposed to mandatory Gardasil vaccination, she points out that the vaccine might actually increase the risk of cervical cancer, which Merck, its manufacturer, touts Gardasil prevents. I don’t believe them.

http://tinyurl.com/3xepug - Another article on the same subject, also featuring more information about the steps Merck is taking to make sure Gardasil succeeds in the marketplace.

http://tinyurl.com/2tubjp - This article, from the Center for Medical Consumers, further documents Merck’s ploy to literally purchase public policy in order to ensure that Gardasil is the huge financial windfall they are counting on it to be.

http://www.rense.com/general76/fdac.htm - An angry and informative editorial by Dr. Betty Martini exposing the fraud committed by the FDA in its protection of aspartame, a proven toxin. Also includes lots of links to more on the story. Very informative.

http://tinyurl.com/3bkzrl - This link will take you to a NASA video showcasing a newly discovered six-sided hexagon above Saturn’s north pole. Very interesting.

http://www.wired.com/medtech/health/news/2007/01/72448 - Another very interesting story, this one about micro-robots now being developed that could potentially travel through the arteries to aid in surgical and diagnostic procedures.

http://tinyurl.com/33f5su - This link will take you with an interview with Jeremy Scahill about Blackwater, a private, mercenary army now fighting in Iraq and being funded by our tax dollars. According to Scahill, Blackwater has “upwards of 100,000 private contractors in Iraq. They are subjected to no effective laws. There's almost no oversight. They operate with almost no transparency… Their deaths [those they cause] don't get counted. Their crimes don't get reported or prosecuted. They're effectively a shadow army operating at the behest of an Administration waging a rogue war.” This very disturbing trend is something we should all be aware of.
