What’s New

I’m back.
Thanks to everyone who emailed me, and my apologies for briefly disappearing. Recently, in order to upgrade and improve our hosting capacities, we switched servers. In doing so, we were unaware that we were suddenly unable to send emails to many of our readers, especially those with AOL, Netscape, and Earthlink accounts. The problem was entirely ours and has been corrected. Until it was, however, I decided delay this issue until all of our readers could receive it.

Since many of you did not receive the last two issues of The Health Plus Letter, I’m reprinting the interview I conducted with Sharry Edwards, one of the leading pioneers in the field of sound medicine, to ensure that you are aware of her sound energy software program, The Nutritional Consultant, which she is making available to you for a f/r/e/e 30-day trial. It’s a wonderful, empowering health tool that I high recommend you experience for yourself.

I’m also reprinting an excellent expose of the FDA’s betrayal of its public trust and its cozy relationship with Big Pharma.

You’ll also find self-care tips for preventing and reversing memory and cognition problems.

I’ll be back next week with a full issue of new content.

As always, please continue to send me your comments and suggestions. And please spread the word about The Health Plus Letter by passing it along to your friends and inviting them to subscribe.

An Interview with Sharry Edwards

Previously, I told you that pioneering sound healing researcher Sharry Edwards is making available her computerized vocal profiling technology for f/r/e/e for 30 days. [The technology is available via downloadable programs that you will find at Sharry’s website –
http://www.vocalprofiling.com. Once there, cli/ck on the link in the upper left of the homepage, entitled Nutritional Consultant Fr/e/e Trial Software Flyer. From there you will be guided through the registration and download process. By installing the Nutrition Consultant software onto your computer you will be able to accurately assess your health and learn which specific nutrients you require for that day. (You will need to purchase a computer microphone if your computer doesn’t already have one. Sharry recommends an inexpensive model from Radio Shack; the information about it can be found one her website.)]

To help you understand the power and usefulness of the Nutritional Consultant software that Sharry developed, I interviewed her about it. Our interview follows. If you haven’t already done so, I urge you to take advantage of Sharry’s generous offer, having experienced firsthand how much of a difference in can make in our health.

When you register to receive the software, please indicate that I sent you, so that she can track where her clients are coming from. [Note: I receive no remuneration from Sharry in any way. I’m simply making her offer available to you because I know it works and consider it a powerful tool for healing.]

In the text explaining the Nutritional Consultant software, it mentions that nutritional needs can be evaluated according to "frequency resonance." What does that mean and how can it be used to determine whether a person has or lacks adequate amounts of specific nutrients?

Although we have confirmed our research results with standardized testing, the technology we use to define vocal profiling is so novel that science has no established language or protocol to adequately express the relationships we have found between frequencies and substance. For example, when a computerized vocal sample identifies a deviant frequency that we classify as zinc, we use the term to indicate that the “frequency resonance” zinc may be an issue.  Biofrequency and Frequency Equivalent™ can also be used to express this type of  relationship identification.

The f/r/e/e download allows people to use their own vocal print to create Vocal Profiles of their own, specific nutrient needs measured in term of frequency.  The program is designed to identify high, low or unbalanced nutritional needs in terms of Frequency Equivalents. A dictionary then identifies risk factor associations and food sources of those supplements.

Why are you choosing to make this software available n/o/w for a full 30 days at no cost?

I considered this move carefully before I made the decision to give away a product that we had worked four years to create.  Some of the reasons are:

1) In light of the recent accelerated attempts to usurp our health freedoms I, like you and        many other dedicated people, wanted to provide an opportunity for people to monitor their own health.  I reasoned that if people had an efficient way to monitor their nutritional needs, it would encourage them to move toward the idea of self health. It is obvious that people are discouraged not only with the health care system but with the lack of options for change.

2) We hope that once people use Vocal Profiling to monitor their nutritional needs they will want to use the computer program on a permanent basis.  In that case they will purchase the system after the 30 day trial period; which in turn will support our research.

3) One of the complaints that I consistently hear is the absence of knowledge that can identify what nutrients are individually appropriate.  That lack of adequate information is one of the excuses used in the attempts to strong-arm legislation mandated to control supplement use. Vocal Profiling has the potential to provide the needed information about daily use of nutrients – in terms of frequency, of course.

4) The Nutritional Consultant is a way to introduce people to what we have to offer.  People have a hard time believing what Vocal Profiling can reveal about their nutrition, genetics, metabolism, vaccination risks and toxin and pathogen exposure; n/o/w they can find out without any obli/gation on their part.

5) I thought it was a great opportunity that people could use the program to create nutritional status reports for their friends, clients or patients.  I hope people get hooked on the system and end up taking our courses.  We need more practitioners trained to take care of the demand for our services.  We have more work we can do; they back log is incred/ible.  If other people train to do this, I won’t end up doing all the work; so actually, my motives are selfish.  I’m working seven days a week trying to help solve the medical mysteries that are referred to us every day.  I could use some help getting all the research completed.

6) I hope that others who have techniques that will allow us dominion over our health will follow suit and begin to offer more opportunities like this.  It was an agonizing decision for us to do this.  I knew that it was going to cause us to lo/se a great deal of financial support but someone had to step forward and declare that, we the people, have had enough of money-driven health care.

Using the software program, once a person determines that she requires various nutrients, what should they do? I know you are not a physician or nutritionist, yet are there specific types of nutrients that you recommend, or will any type do?

One of the options in the program is a “cocktails” search that allows people to print a        report of nutrient associations with symptoms and disease. A person who is experiencing        depression, fatigue and insomnia, for instance, can cross reference their own reports with the nutrition based research that has already been published.

The Nutritional Consultant download is actually two computer programs: an informational video clip, plus instructions via a textbook and PowerPoint demonstrations.  A person can take their own vocal sample and then use the computer program to manually focus on the frequencies that will be entered into the second computer program to create the Vocal Profiling Reports. Individual, printable reports can provide information about the status of fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, cell salts, amino acids, enzymes and associated nutrients.

These printable reports can be used to compare the person’s individual symptoms against compiled lists of nutrient associated diseases. The meaning of these associations can beinvestigated by the individual or one can offer the reports to a wellness practitioner, nutritionist or any other trained person to provide health information.

The f/r/e/e download is a basic set of materials.  Advanced programs and an option for automatic evaluation are available should the user want to use progressed techniques. The computer program provides the option to personalize each of the reports with name and contact information.

What other applications for health does the work you are doing provide?

The list is shorter for what it doesn’t provide. We are presently working to decode genetic information into frequencies.  We have enough supporting data to show that genetic frequency relationships are a reality.

We have also completed several pilot studies to show the potential to control muscle strength or weakness.  This could be used by professional teams to predict sports injuries, keeping valuable players off the injury list.  We also want to work with NASA and use this technique to support muscle integrity in wei/ghtless conditions.  Additionally, it could be used for people with muscle wasting diseases.  We have already used the technique to help the body reverse diseases such a multiple sclerosis.

We have recently researched frequencies that can eliminate back stress.  We hope tofranchise this idea and have it available to the public in the very near future.  We have already tested it in pilot studies.  We are not absolutely sure how it works but you can’t argue with the results.

Recently, we completed a project that allowed a person who had been deaf for 18 years to recover her hearing.  It took seven months but it worked. The Mayo Clinic is investigating the case because what we were able to accomplish is impossible by current medical standards.

We want to complete our project with the toxins that resulted from the collapse of the World Trade Center on 9/11. Our preliminary studies with the Fireman’s Union identified the toxin responsible for the fireman’s cough.  That same frequency has been identified as an early age onset breast cancer gene so we can expect a surge in the incidence of breast cancer in and about the location of Ground Zero.  We started the project and were invited back to do more but we didn’t have the funding to complete the project.

One of my most personal issues is the identification of vaccination/immunization risk factors. We have completed a computerized vocal profiling program, PreVac, that has the potential to identify risk factors for people, especially children, who may have adverse results to vaccinations.  We can identify the factors that may minimize side effects. We have also been able to match medications to help prevent side-effects. This is probably one of our most requested services.

Some of our other current projects include: anti-aging, insulin resistance, sno/ring, insomnia, ADD, macular degeneration, peripheral neuropathy, immune deficiency, degenerative disk disease. We have templated (created frequency templates for) a great many symptoms of disease origins.

I’ve gone on a bit about some my favorite projects. The bottom line is that we have developed a Mathematical Definition of Disease Origin (MDDO).  We can look at symptoms, disease and the disease process from a mathematical perspective.  It allows us to provide support for the body’s normal fo/rm and function.

If someone wants to explore the technologies you've developed further, how can they do so?

Visit our web site or give us a call at Sound Health.  Articles, downloadable video clips, and other information are available.  Class and client packets are available from the web site or from our office. We have an awesome staff that can answer your quest/ions and provide references and referrals.  People can also read about us in the Townsend Letter for Doctors, your books, Health on the Edge, Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide,
and other publications about sound and sound therapy.

Very soon, you will be able to visit our web site, have your vocal print taken and within a few seconds have a complete evaluation of your health; from your genes, through everyday life to why and how you are aging. We have found how and why the voice is a physical representation of the frequency relationships that dictate our being.  The body has the ability to perceive and heal itself using frequency.  We don’t have all of the answers but we have enough to know that Vocal Profiling will have a dominant place in the medicine of the future.

Self-Care Tips for Preventing and Reversing Memory and Cognition Problems

Symptoms:
Poor mental focus, poor learning, poor memory, difficulty following information, conversation, or train of thought.

Consider: Allergies, candidiasis, thyroid disorders, stroke or poor circulation to brain, amino acid imbalance, low blood sugar, poor mental habits and laziness requiring tutoring in learning techniques. (It is possible that coping strategies taught one to forget and not to think rather than to be able to concentrate.)

Self-Care

Diet: Whole foods diet including fish and adequate protein. Avoidance of food allergies or other allergies that may cause cerebral allergies, contributing to poor concentration. Consider a diet associated with hypoglycemia as low blood sugar problems may be a contributing factor. Lots of pure water daily.

Nutritional Therapy: • Supercholine • If low blood sugar, take chromium • Protein supplements or amino acids (identification of amino acid imbalance may be helpful) • Pantothenic Acid • Vitamin B complex (deficiency of the B vitamins can result in numerous conditions related to the brain and nervous system, including memory loss or impairment, disorientation or confusion, irritability, mood swings, fatigue, or depression).

Numerous observational studies have found insufficiencies of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) in many elderly Americans. Pyridoxine supports the digestive, immune, and nervous systems and normal brain function.

Phosphatidyl choline, found in lecithin, is the nutrient precursor to acetylcholine, an important brain chemical (neurotransmitter) involved in both memory and thought. DMAE (dimethylamine ethanol) also promotes the production of acetylcholine and has been shown to increase memory. Phosphatidyl serine (PS) supports and revitalizes nerve cells and has been shown in numerous studies to slow or reverse cognitive losses attributed to aging. PS also helps brain cells communicate and improves both memory and the ability to concentrate.

Herb/al Remedies:Ginkgo biloba helps to improve the circulation of blood and oxygen to the entire body and the brain. Standardized extracts of ginkgo have been shown in numerous double-blind studies to be able to greatly improve the supply of blood and oxygen to the brain (cerebral vascular insufficiency) and improve brain function. • Ginseng has the ability to improve mental function and stamina as well as physical stamina. Siberian ginseng is most often recommended to improve mental function. • Vinpocetine, an extract found in the periwinkle plant (Vinca minor), is a vasodilator and cerebral metabolic enhancer.

Pycnogenol extract derived from grape seeds or pine bark provides antioxidant protection to the brain and central nervous system. It strengthens blood vessel and capillary walls and helps prevent and reverse ischemia (lack of oxygen due to poor blood flow) in brain tissue, which in turn helps reduce mental deterioration.

Other herbs known to support brain function and longevity include ashwagandha and Bacopa monniera (Ayurvedic), bilberry, capsicum, fo-ti tieng (Chinese), garlic, ginseng, green tea, kelp, peppermint leaf, rosemary, sarsaparilla, and wood betony. • Mix one teaspoon each of skullcap and gotu kola with hot water for improved awareness.

Homeopathy:
Argen nit., Arsen alb.

Mind/Body Therapy: • Guided Imagery, biofeedback (attention deficit disorders), meditation. • Belly breathing for enhanced relaxation and concentration. Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet on the floor at hip’s width, with your hands are at your side. As you breathe, focus on your belly. As you inhale, imagine it expanding in all directions like a big balloon. As you exhale, feel it contract. Allow your exhalation to eventually become twice as long as your inhalation.

Professional Care

The following therapies should only be provided by a qualified health professional:

Applied Kinesiology • Chelation Therapy • Environmental Medicine • Hypnotherapy • Light Therapy • Magnetic Field Therapy • Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy • Naturopathic Medicine • Orthomolecular Therapy • Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Vision Therapy:
Vision therapy may be an effective method for improving mental focus. Accuracy of aiming, speed of movement, and quality of single, clear sight are often enhanced through vision therapy even in older individuals. Increases in attention, memory, and the ability to sustain focus are often the result.

FDA Chooses Drug Industry Health Over Public Health  by Ritt Goldstein

[Note: The following article was originally published on February 23, 2005 by CommonDreams.org.  It does an excellent job of summarizing the collusion that exists between the FDA and the pharmaceutical industry it is supposed to regulate in the interests of public safety. This collusion has existed from the FDA’s earliest days but has become increasingly blatant in the last two decades.]

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is supposed to ensure the safety and quality of drugs reaching the public, acting on the taxpayers' behalf. As of Friday (February 18), an extraordinary three-day FDA Advisory Committee meeting is finishing, but investigation suggests business interests have superseded public health at the agency. In a last-minute reversal, the FDA allowed a prominent drug safety scientist to offer testimony about new, unpublished research at extraordinary three-day hearings on the risks and benefits of a controversial class of painkillers known as COX-2 inhibitors.

Dr. David Graham, the FDA's associate safety director, says the agency had attempted to suppress a recent study on the drugs that he conducted with Dr. Gurkirpal Singh of Stanford Univer/sity.

"They don't want safety information (to go) out to the public," Graham charged in an interview, "because it will only highlight how inadequate their assessment of safety has been before the drugs have gotten onto the market."

The FDA veteran said he was "told in very clear, emphatic and very terse, unfriendly tone of voice and terms, we were not to present these data. These data could not be presented."

Last year, Graham led a study on Merck's Vioxx that indicated 30,000 to 55,000 Vioxx-related deaths in the United States, and more still globally. Similar quest/ions about cardiovascular problems have been raised about Pfizer's Celebrex and Bextra.

In mid-December, U.S. senator Charles Grassley called for an independent commission to review U.S. drug safety policies. Last week, Grassley again made headlines by accusing the FDA's leadership of quashing the new research by Graham and Singh.

Last Wednesday (February 16), Graham said he had received a letter from acting FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford telling him he could testify without fear of reprisal.

The following day, Graham told the committee that he saw a "class effect" of cardiac risk at a higher dosage from COX-2 drugs. "The bottom line conclusion I come to is there doesn't really appear to be a need for COX-2," he said.

The latest study uses the same methodology that Graham perfected in the Vioxx study published in the British medical journal, the Lancet, he told IPS.

Before it was voluntarily withdrawn from the market by Merck last September 30, Vioxx was taken by 80 million people, about 20 million of them in the U.S. Celebrex and Bextra, both manufactured by Pfizer, are reported as having 26 million and seven million global users, respectively.

Repeated telephone calls to Pfizer and the FDA yielded no one available for comment.

Graham and other critics say the agency has a tendency to suppress studies at the most crucial times, only to allow them later to surface.

"We said that we thought this information was absolutely critical to the advisory committee. It spoke about the risks with Celebrex. It spoke about the risks with Bextra," said Graham.

Several similar incidents have occurred in recent months of data suppression by the FDA, including a report linking selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants to suicides in you/ng people.

The 15-member FDA committee, whose members are drawn from academia, public health and industry, will ultimately decide whether Celebrex and Bextra should be withdrawn, or whether their warning labels should be strengthened.

Merck & Co. announced Thursday (February 17) that, depending on the advisory committee's findings, it could return Vioxx to the market, citing similar cardiovascular risks with the other COX-2 drugs.

The latest study is "between five and 50 times lar/ger than any other (painkiller) study that's ever been done," Graham said, noting that the accuracy of a study generally increases with its sample size.

"We've looked at most of the non-steroidal pain relievers on the U.S. market. And so we have, I think, a fairly encyclopedic study that documents the levels of risk for many of these drugs," he said.

"The classic approach of industry and FDA has been to do studies that are too small to conclusively identify that a risk is real," he added. "They can conclude, therefore, that there is no risk.”

Graham charged that "FDA standards of evidence give drugs and drug companies a fr/ee pass on safety.” [emphasis added]

Currently, about half of the FDA's "human drug" budget is met by the total fees generated by the 1992 Prescription Drug User Fees Act (PDUFA), in which companies pay mil/lions of dollars to have their drugs evaluated by the agency. In some western nations, the drug regulatory bodies are 100 percent industry-funded.

When asked if he saw FDA's problems as stemming from PDUFA, Graham, a 20-year FDA veteran, replied: "This attitude existed before, but what happened with PDUFA in 1992 was it set in motion an external pressure and a dynamic that took this tendency within FDA and made it far, far worse and much more intense."

Many critics also believe that PDUFA heightened a pro-industry bias.

"People know that their salaries are dependent upon the companies that initiate drug testing," said Dr. Sheldon Krimsky of Tufts Univer/sity in Boston, an ethicist who has studied corporate influence on science. "It has a certain effect on the consciousness of the reviewers. There shouldn't be this supporting role of government by multinationals."

Krimsky says that growing drug industry clout in the U.S. has led to "controlling the research and testing agenda, and to having an effect on regulatory agencies by making sure supportive people are in those agencies."

Control has come with the financing of bio-medical research and the structuring of the studies done to approve the results of that research for the market. Funding processes have been the key mechanisms, including political contributions.

"In the course of the last 30 years, the whole clinical trial process has become a process that the (pharmaceutical) industry has taken more and more control of," the famed British drug scientist and psychiatrist Dr. David Healy -- responsible for Britain banning most SSRI antidepressants for use in you/ng people -- told IPS in an earlier interview.

"They've (the pharmaceutical companies) published as positive trials, trials which everyone else -- when they get to see the raw data -- realise are not positive trials. That actually...it's clear that the drug didn't work, and that it had hazards," Healy told IPS last summer.

His remarks were later echoed by others, including members of Congress, as evidence mounted on the SSRI drugs' connection with violent and suicidal behaviour, especially among children and teens.

Regarding regulators, if Big Pharma "didn't like something about the FDA ... it could change it through direct pressure or through its friends in Congress," charged Dr. Marcia Angell, former editor-in-chief of the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine and a senior lecturer at Harvard Medical School, in an interview last fall with MSNBC.

The pharmaceutical business is becoming "a vertically integrated industry", Krimsky said, which influences "every aspect of drug development" - including physician education, drug promotion, lobbying of government agencies, and consumer advertising.

"There's no other industry in which the manufacturer has such a ti/ght control, and pays for most of the testing that goes on," said Krimsky, who recently published a book entitled, Science in the Private Interest: How the Lure of Profits Corrupted Bio-Medical Research.

Graham charges that the division of the FDA that pursues drug testing and approval sees its mission as "reviewing and approving as many drugs as it can", with safety a "low priority".  In effect, Graham told IPS, the FDA's Office of Drug Safety is "completely captive" to the Office of New Drugs.

Published studies have claimed that adverse drug reactions appear to be the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. A paper published in the May 2002 Journal of the American Medical Association by scientists from Harvard Medical School also strongly urged physicians not to prescribe newer drugs for their patients where older, proven treatments are available.

Numerous drug industry critics see the need for a "firewall" between drug companies and drug testing.

Graham, Krimsky, and others, including Dr. Curt Furberg, a member of the FDA's Drug Safety and Risk Management Committee, strongly advocate a new, more independent drug safety system, preferably outside the FDA structure completely.

While the FDA has just announced the creation of a new board to oversee monitoring of drugs already on the market, Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of the non-profit Public Citizen Health Research Group in Washington, was quoted as observing, "In the absence of any fundamental change, it's a cruel hoax."
